Founded in 1892 (133 years old)
We are a friendly community based Cricket Club situated in Padiham, Lancashire. Where a warm welcome awaits those of all ages who want fun, enjoyment and competition. Please get in touch if you are moving to the area, or if you already live here, and wish to get involved with a local progressive Cricket Club.
History
Padiham Cricket Club became a founding member of The Ribblesdale Cricket League in 1982 which is located in Lancashire, North West England. Padiham were founded in 1891 and remained members during the infamous season of 1902 when the league was reduced to only four teams. After finishing runners up in 1901 and 1906 Padiham won their first league Championship in 1908. The club was unable to continue after the First World War but moves to
re-establish a club in the town began in 1947. Land was bought at the Arbories, and in 1948 Padiham Cricket Club re-opened with the ground dedicated as a memorial to the Second World War victims.
In 2022, after 130 years Ribblesdale Cricket League merged with the Bolton Cricket League to form the North West Cricket League ready for the 2023 season.
In 2023 Padiham became a founding member of the North West Cricket League.
Padiham Sports Club
Few towns or villages in this area can boast such a fine sports ground as the Arbories.
Away from hustle and bustle of everyday life, the Arbories Memorial Sports Ground has been witness to many sporting occasions; seen thousands of local sportsmen take centre stage as representatives of the towns Football and Cricket Clubs, and provided hundreds of thousands of hour’s worth of entertainment for spectators who have visited the ground over the last half Century.
A remarkable success story for Padiham and a tribute to the original group of local people who between 1947 and 1949 worked hard to provide Padiham with a new sports ground which was to act as a living memorial to the 54 Padiham men who died during World War Two.
What is even more remarkable is that the upkeep and maintenance of the grounds have been undertaken from day one by local people for the benefit of local people, under the direction of Padiham Sports Club, an organisation formed in 1947 to act as trustees of the ground.
Today the Management Committee of Padiham Sports Club still look after the Arbories Memorial Sports Ground and raise finances to keep the ground open.
